चंडीगढ़ के पूर्व IPS अधिकारी और रिटायर्ड DIG इंदरजीत सिंह सिद्धू 88 वर्ष की उम्र में भी हर सुबह झाड़ू और कचरे का बैग लेकर सड़कों पर निकल पड़ते हैं।
राह चलते लोग उन्हें अक्सर सफाई कर्मचारी समझ लेते हैं। बहुत कम लोग जानते हैं कि यही व्यक्ति कभी पुलिस विभाग के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी रहे हैं।
एक सड़क हादसे में उनके पैर में चोट लगी, जिससे चलने में कठिनाई होने लगी। लेकिन उन्होंने अपने सफाई अभियान को नहीं छोड़ा। आज भी छड़ी के सहारे सड़कों और सार्वजनिक स्थानों से कचरा उठाकर स्वच्छता का संदेश देते हैं।
1996 में सेवानिवृत्त होने के बाद उन्होंने आराम की बजाय समाज सेवा का रास्ता चुना। उनकी इसी निस्वार्थ सोच और समर्पण ने उन्हें लोगों के बीच “झाड़ू योद्धा” के नाम से पहचान दिलाई।
देश ने भी उनके इस योगदान का सम्मान किया। राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू ने उन्हें पद्मश्री से सम्मानित किया।
इंदरजीत सिंह सिद्धू की कहानी हमें याद दिलाती है कि समाज बदलने के लिए ऊंचे पद की नहीं, ऊंची सोच और निरंतर सेवा भावना की जरूरत होती है। अगर हर नागरिक अपने आसपास की स्वच्छता की जिम्मेदारी निभाए, तो भारत और भी सुंदर बन सकता है। ❤️🌿
