राजस्थान के जैसलमेर के ऊंट पालक सुमेर सिंह भाटी को Rangeland Restoration Award 2026 से सम्मानित किया गया है। यह सम्मान चरागाहों के संरक्षण, पुनर्स्थापन और पशुपालक समुदायों की आजीविका मजबूत करने में उनके योगदान के लिए दिया गया।
उनकी पहल के जरिए 10,000 हेक्टेयर से अधिक घास के मैदानों को पुनर्जीवित करने में मदद मिली। इससे 50,000 से ज्यादा ऊंट, गाय, भेड़ और बकरियों के लिए चारे की उपलब्धता बेहतर हुई और पशुपालक परिवारों की आजीविका को भी मजबूती मिली।
रेगिस्तान के पारंपरिक चरागाह केवल पशुओं के लिए चारे का स्रोत नहीं हैं, बल्कि वे स्थानीय जैव विविधता और सदियों पुरानी पशुपालक संस्कृति का भी आधार हैं। सुमेर सिंह भाटी का काम इसी प्राकृतिक और सामाजिक विरासत को बचाने की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण प्रयास है।
यह सम्मान International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP) 2026 के संदर्भ में चरागाहों और पशुपालक समुदायों के संरक्षण के महत्व को भी सामने लाता है।
